You can never have too much storage space. Ask anyone marginally interested in tech or with a media based hobby. Storage space is a vital component of productivity. I personally have a nice little collection of external and internal HDDs and SSDs that have amassed over the years. Samsung has recently launched its 870 QVO line of SSDs that come in 1, 2, 4, and 8TB flavors, with the latter being the main draw for consumers. So, aside from a sizable chunk of storage space, what else does this drive really offer?
Coming in at $130, $250, $500, and $900, the 870 QVO is touted as providing excellent value for mainstream and professional PC users alike. With write speeds of up to 560mb, the SSD also packs what Samsung has dubbed “Intelligent TurboWrite technology”. This tech adjusts the buffer size to an optimal level within usable disk space. In effect, allowing the SSD to maintain peak performance at all times.
Additionally, the SSD has random read and write speeds of up to 98,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) and 88,000 IOPS.
Samsung also added that the Magician 6 software has been upgraded to offer a more convenient interface and that the 870 QVO provides an endurance rating of up to 2,880TB in total bytes written.
$900 is a pretty hefty price tag, but for an 8TB SSD it’s not as crazy as it seems. Most 4-6TB SSDs run for an average $500-$700 right now, so if you’re willing to pay that you may as well go for broke (not literally!!) and get the next step up.
