Earlier today one of my favorite publisher/developers, Devolver Digital revealed their latest title: Blightbound. Developed by Ronimo Games (also responsible for the popular Awesomenauts), Blightbound seeks to scratch that dungeon crawling, looter itch with its unique blend of character recruitment, crafting, and base maintenance. While the gothic, comic book esque art-style looks nice, I wouldn’t blame you for thinking “Well, this looks like so many other dungeon crawlers on Steam right now…”. So, how does Blightbound aspire to separate itself from the pack? Continue reading “Let There be Loot!”
Be. Aggressive. B-E-Aggressive!
Earlier today, gamers around the world rejoiced as Geoff Keighley and the ‘Bird Man’ himself, Tony Hawk, unveiled Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2: Remastered kick flipping their way into our homes on September 4th. The reveal was the focus point of today’s Summer Game Fest and presented us with a trailer rife with nostalgia and plenty of gameplay. The reaction has been nothing short of astoundingly positive. Especially since the Skater genre seems to have taken a bit of a hiatus since Skate 3 (and the disappointing THPS 5 leaving a terrible taste in everyone’s mouths). Continue reading “Be. Aggressive. B-E-Aggressive!”
“For a Brick, he flew pretty good!”
The Halo franchise is Legendary and poised to be forever etched into the annals of video game history. Today, we celebrate another momentous occasion for the franchise as the Remastered Halo 2 arrives later today for the PC version of the Master Chief Collection. While many have differing views regarding 343i‘s entries with Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, both games performed well and maintained a healthy fanbase. One of their biggest and most divisive projects was the jam packed Master Chief Collection, which was originally only available for the Xbox One family of consoles. Loba Lands in Apex
Tomorrow, in fact! Moments ago, the main Apex Twitter Account tweeted out the official launch trailer for their newest character, Loba. The Outland’s greatest thief ushers in the 5th Season of the game’s long running tenure, Fortune’s Favor. Sporting an aesthetic that makes her quite the bit of eye-candy, Loba actually brings a slue of unique skills and abilities with her striking good looks. Continue reading “Loba Lands in Apex”
Getting Back on Track
As multiple countries begin to flatten their infection curve and slowly return to a bit of normalcy, we will continue to see more and more businesses opening their doors to welcome eager patrons. Of particular note is Disney’s Shanghai theme park which has officially reopened its doors today. Senior VP of Park Operations, Andrew Bolstein had taken journalists on a tour to detail and explain just how the park would operate under its new Health and Safety guidelines. The Narrative is Changing
Traditionally, when we began to move into the next generation of consoles, the shift would be preceded by promises of jaw dropping visual enhancements. More polygons! More detail! More content! Bigger! BETTER! For all intents and purposes, manufacturers and developers alike have made good on this promise. However, coming off the back of current technology, the 9th generation of consoles are promising something different. Something far more valuable than a few extra polygons; something consumers should start taking notice of.
“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” -H.P. Lovecraft
It goes without saying that Horror is one of my favorite genres of most entertainment mediums. From reading R.L. Stine’s popular Goosebumps series as a kid, experiencing the fear of showering alone after watching Stephen King’s TV adaptation of ‘IT’, to discovering the Eldritch Gods and cosmic horrors creeping from the depths of Lovecraft’s mind. I loved it all. Gaming is no exception, and in fact, is the medium I tend to enjoy most.
Save Your Gum for Later
Covid-19 continues its reign of terror as yet another studio is forced to push back its game’s release date as work slows down to keep its employees safe. This time, it’s Ninjala. The main Twitter account released a video early this morning wherein lead Designer for the game and story, Morishita, and Director Kaneda solemnly address viewers by announcing the game’s new release date. June 24th. Originally slated to arrive later this month, the high flying, wall running ninja brawler has been pushed back as production slows down in order to keep employees safe. I have no qualms with putting people’s lives first (I implore all businesses to do this, PLEASE), and having to wait a few weeks more isn’t that bad.
Ninjala’s open beta concluded not too long ago, and despite some server side issues I found the game to be very fun and potentially addicting. The combat is fast, smooth, and has just enough depth to reward smart plays and quick thinking. This, coupled with a delightfully varied cast with unique personalities means that Gungho may have a sleeper hit on their hands. Oh, and it will be free to play for all Switch Owners. Extra Brownie points!
Xbox 20/20 Digital Tour Begins
Ever since the unveiling of the Series X, Microsoft has been driving home their mantra of more confident, bold, and transparent business. Today, they kicked off their self titled ‘Xbox 20/20’ tour via ‘Inside Xbox’, which is a series of digital events that will be held every month leading up to the launch of the Series X. Microsoft made it very clear that this presentation in particular would be focusing on 3rd party titles and developers. For a little over 30 minutes were treated to a nonstop barrage of exactly that; World Premieres, gameplay footage, and more.
